Precision Farming Technician/Trainee Position


Do you have a passion for agriculture and the future of farming with technology?  Already have some GPS, auto-electrical, radio communications or IT solutions background and looking for something more exciting, challenging and new?  A unique position has become available with us for a PRECISION FARMING TECHNICIAN/TRAINEE, also to be known as a “Case IH Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) Specialist”.

Case IH was a pioneer in developing advanced farming technology and continues to a be a market-leader in this area.  With new tractor models now being released with AFS Connect actually incorporated within the tractor, it is taking precision farming and the productive operation of machinery to a whole new level.  Sugar cane harvesters in our area are now taking the next step in precision farming by monitoring real time yield (tonnage) data as well as a range of other vital information that has not previously been available to farmers including telematics.  It is an exciting time in farming and technology related industries.  A great time for you to jump on board.

Due to the high demand for precision farming technicians with the rapid growth of technology and guidance systems in farming, we would ideally be seeking candidates who already possess a high level of skills in this area however we are willing to consider candidates who be suitable for a traineeship and undertaking the necessary training in a reasonably short period of time.

As part of your role, you will be required to:

  • Undertake all necessary AFS training, including with manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Be responsible for the sales, installation and support of AFS products including servicing and spare parts.
  • Work with the added feature of telematics and yield monitors
  • Assist with the adoption of new technology and product offerings
  • Assist with finding solutions for precision farming needs
  • Undertake necessary customer training
  • Sometimes travel to other farming areas within Queensland for training and work purposes.

Ideally you will possess the following:

  • A passion for technology and computer systems
  • Proficient with computers, mobile applications and devices
  • An understanding and or an appreciation of the agricultural industry
  • Previous experience in either GPS guidance systems, auto-electrical, radio communications or IT solutions.
  • Previous experience in telematics while not essential would be highly advantageous
  • A willingness to learn and develop your skills
  • Strong customer and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • A current Driver’s Licence

Remuneration will be dependent on the level of experience and skills.   A work computer and all other necessary technical equipment will be provided as well as a work vehicle and phone for fully qualified technicians able to work independently.

We have been servicing the Mackay and Whitsunday region for over 26 years and continue to grow in the services we offer our strong customer base.

All our technicians receive ongoing training and skills development with our manufacturers as well as in-house support.

Ideally, successful applicants would be required to:

  • Be enthusiastic, reliable and dedicated to customer service.
  • Have previous experience working in a workshop or service department.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised and manage individual workloads while also working as part of a team.
  • Possess a high level of product and industry knowledge and the skills necessary in order to provide technical and mechanical support to our customers.
  • Demonstrate experience with similar or same type of machinery and equipment. Previous experience with Case IH machinery, while not essential, would be considered HIGHLY advantageous.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Possess a reasonable level of written and verbal communication skills as well as be computer literate. Previous experience with computer diagnostics would also be advantageous.
  • Hold a current Driver’s Licence.
